Interpreting
We will arrange for experienced interpreters to work on your behalf.
Consecutive interpreting:
Consecutive interpreting is where the information is recited with a time delay, i.e. where necessary the interpreter makes notes during the speech and then communicates what has been said in the target language.
On account of the greater amount of time required, this type of interpreting is usually employed at ceremonial occasions (presentations, speeches, receptions, etc.) or cultural events (e.g. film / theatrical premieres).
Simultaneous interpreting:
Simultaneous interpreting is where the information is recited almost simultaneously, i.e. the interpreter sits in a soundproof interpreting booth and listens to the speaker through headphones. The translation is then transmitted by microphone and can be picked up by people listening to the speech on headphones.
Given the great strain placed on the interpreter, it is advisable to employ a team of two or more interpreters during lengthy events and functions.
This type of interpreting is usually used at large-scale events such as conferences, seminars or congresses.
Whispered interpreting:
(also called Chuchotage, from the French verb chuchoter - to whisper)
Whispered interpreting is a form of simultaneous interpreting but it does not require any technical equipment such as a microphone or headphones. Interpreting is therefore also usually only provided for a maximum of two people. The interpreter sits behind or next to the listeners and quietly whispers the translation to them.
Chuchotage is particularly suitable for interviews, negotiations, meetings of heads of state and governments and other small events involving one or two listeners.
Liaison interpreting:
Liaison interpreting is a form of interpreting where a dialogue is translated back and forth into both languages in sentences or in fairly short sections. The liaison interpreter therefore enables the people engaged in a conversation to understand what the other person is saying.
This version is often used during negotiations and meetings. But this type of interpreting is also employed for communication with authorities or in hospitals, for example.
